Where to find the version information

If you are not sure whether the patch is installed or not do the following: Launch your TA manually by using the appropriate menu entry from the Windows Start menu or launch it directly from the TA folder by double clicking on the file TotalA.exe from within the Windows Explorer. Note the TotalA.exe may not appear in the Windows Explorer folder display at all if the Explorer option 'Hide files of these types' is enabled or it may show the name without the suffix exe if the option 'Hide file extensions for known file types' is disabled.
After TA started and the intro movie has been played you see the TA startup screen which shows the version info right below the game label. If the version info on your computer differs from that on the screen shot below then the patch was not applied at all or was not apllied correctly.

Reasons why the patch may fail and how to fix it

  • You may have downloaded the patch file ta1x-31c.exe but forgot you have to run the program to apply the patch. Just downloading the file and putting it into the TA folder on your hard disk won't do it.
  • On some computers the patch tries to upgrade the wrong directory. Instead overwriting the files in the TA folder it would overwrite files to be found in backup subfolders. To fix the problem follow the steps below:

    1. Close TA and open the Windows Explorer. Change to the folder where TA resides and remove the sub folders labeled BACKUP respectively BTBACKUP. Depending on the TA expansions installed you will find one of the two sub folders only or both of them.
    2. Run the TA 3.1c patch file ta1x-31c.exe again.
    3. Make sure the correct version is now displayed at the TA startup screen (screenshot above).
If the above steps didn't solve the problem then I recommend to deinstall all TA related software and reinstall it from scratch. The deinstallers won't remove some of the files in the TA folder so you better remove the whole TA folder manually once the deinstallers finished their work.
Don't forget to backup any 3rd party unit or map you have installed before removing the TA folder.
Once everything TA releated is removed, head over to the TA patch section and follow the instructions for installing TA to be found there.
  • Maybe you decided to reinstall one of the expansions from their original discs after you applied the 3.1c patch. Since the expansion CDs are shipped with the 3.0 respectively 3.0b game engine installing them again will overwrite the files the 3.1c patch installed with older versions.
This can be easily fixed by just applying the 3.1c patch again.
